Here’s the question Dr. Patrick Cohn answers this week:

On short putts I will either be short or I will stab at it and run it by. On the practice green I can easily make a high percentage from 4-5 feet range. Well, why does this happen on the course and not in practice and how can I improve?”

This is the number 1 questions we receive when players have the putting yips. Why can’t golfers make short putts? Why do they make more putts from 10 feet than three feet?

Most often when you have the yips it is hard to make any short putt inside 5 feet. But the yips usually do not show up on the practice green. Why? Golfers do not feel pressure to make putts in practice. No fear–No yip.
